The human race can’t seem to get enough of zombies – The Walking Dead, 28 Days Later, World War Z, Shaun of the Dead and I Am Legend are just a few films and TV series that are testament to that. But how likely is this scenario? Is it possible that zombies could be a possibility? What do we do if the zombie apocalypse actually does happen?
Traditionally, a zombie outbreak begins with a virus. If we look at how easy it is for a virus to take hold, a zombie apocalypse suddenly looks a lot less like fiction and closer to the realms of reality. The Ebola outbreak is one example of how a virus can easily take hold and cause devastation. These days, more than ever, people are able to travel quickly between countries, meaning that the virus can be spread quickly and easily.
Typical zombies – the kind that we see on the television and in film that come back from the dead to wreak havoc – are not at this moment thought to be a scientific possibility, as the brain and heart need to both function to create any sort of life. But leaps and bounds are being made in science, and deadly viruses capable of destroying the entire human race are being created in secret laboratories all over the world. So, there is always a chance that science fiction can become a reality – after all, it was not so long ago that human beings thought that walking on the moon was an impossibility.
So, what do we do about it if the time comes? The problem with a zombie virus outbreak is that anybody can fall victim to it. The main thing to do is to get away form large cities and populated places. You will need to learn how to survive without the modern luxuries we are used to, as staying in your home probably isn’t a good idea (unless you live in a bunker deep underground!).
